Product Description

1. Functional Group Protection in Organic Synthesis

As a silicon-based protecting reagent with moderate stability, butylchlorodimethylsilane compensates for the deficiencies of conventional silylating agents, including the facile hydrolysis of trimethylsilyl (TMS) groups and the high steric hindrance-induced low reactivity of tert-butyldimethylsilyl (TBS) groups. It is specially applied for the hydroxyl protection of complex natural products, pharmaceutical intermediates and carbohydrate compounds.
Protection characteristics: It exhibits excellent resistance to weak alkali, oxidation and hydrolysis under ambient conditions. The silyl protecting group can be selectively cleaved under mild acidic conditions without damaging other functional groups of the substrate molecule, delivering significantly higher reaction selectivity than conventional silane reagents.

2. Hydrophobic Modification of Material Surfaces

This reagent is applicable for the surface modification of silica powder, glass, quartz, ceramics and metal oxides. It undergoes dehydration and covalent bonding with hydroxyl groups on inorganic substrate surfaces, grafting a dense n-butyl hydrophobic alkyl film on the material surface to achieve the conversion from hydrophilicity to hydrophobicity.
Modification effects: It improves the interfacial compatibility between inorganic fillers and polymer matrices such as plastics, rubbers and resins, and effectively eliminates filler agglomeration and delamination defects. It also significantly enhances the water resistance, salt spray resistance and aging resistance of coatings, and is widely utilized in coatings, composite materials and rubber-plastic filling systems.

3. Derivatization Reagent for Chromatographic Analysis

For high-polarity and low-volatility organic compounds including carbohydrates, polyols, ster-oids and amino acids, this reagent can shield polar hydroxyl and amino groups via silylation derivatization. It reduces molecular polarity, and improves the thermal stability and volatility of target compounds, which is compatible with gas chromatography (GC) and GC-MS detection systems, and substantially enhances the resolution and accuracy of qualitative and quantitative analysis.

4. Special Intermediate for Organosilicon Synthesis

It serves as a key raw material for the synthesis of n-butyl modified silicone oil, hydrophobic silicone resin and low-surface-energy coatings. The synthesized products possess outstanding low-temperature fluidity, hydrophobicity and weather resistance. Compared with conventional methyl silicone oil, the modified organosilicon materials exhibit superior oil resistance and substrate adhesion.
